Horseradish Sauce Recipe (1)

Horseradish Sauce is a creamy, tangy, delicious sauce that is perfect to serve with steak, prime rib, and beef tenderloin. It adds so much flavor to every bite! I’ve included how to make my Horseradish Sauce Recipe in two ways: a thicker sauce that is similar to the consistency of compound butter and then a looser, creamy sauce. Both versions are so simple to make!

Horseradish Sauce Ingredients

Butter – I prefer to use salted butter, but if you use unsalted you may wish to add just a bit more salt to taste. Make sure that your butter is softened to room temperature.

Resource: How to Soften Butter

Cream Cheese – The cream cheese adds so much flavor and creaminess to the sauce. Make sure that your cream cheese is softened to room temperature. The same method for softening as butter works for cream cheese.

Horseradish – While you can grate your own horseradish, I use a fresh ground horseradish. It is generally kept in the refrigerated section rather than in the deli. You can find it in either fine or coarse ground. I prefer to use coarse ground.

Stone House Seasoning – This is my homemade seasoning blend of salt, pepper and granulated garlic.

OPTIONAL: Sour Cream – Added to the above ingredients for a thinner sauce and included below.

How to Make Homemade Horseradish Sauce Recipe

This version of the recipe is a bit like a compound butter that just melts into a big juicy steak or slice of prime rib when added to it. It is simply delicious!

To make this easy homemade sauce, begin by creaming together your butter and cream cheese with an electric mixer until well-combined and fluffy, about 3 minutes.

Add in your horseradish and Stone House Seasoning.

Horseradish Sauce Recipe (3)

I like to begin by adding one heaping tablespoon to begin with, mix it well with the cream cheese and butter, and then taste. Then, add more horseradish based on your tastes. If you are like me, you may add another tablespoon.

Adjust it to your tastes.

Then transfer to a container and place in the refrigerator until about 15 minutes before you are ready to serve.

For my Creamy Horseradish Sauce Recipe, add 1/4 cup of Sour Cream and mix until well combined.

I think you are going to love both versions of this recipe!
