Hyundai offers two engine choices with the Elantra GT. The GT trim gets a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while the N Line gets a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The latter is the better choice with its strong off-the-mark acceleration and passing power.

The base engine works with a six-speed automatic transmission, while a six-speed manual is standard on the turbo unit. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is a $1,100 option with the turbocharged engine.

The Elantra GT is a five-passenger compact hatchback. Rear legroom is tight and the seat is flat. That said, two adults of average height can fit in relative comfort in the back.

Storage space is one of this model’s strong suits, measuring 24.9 cubic feet or 55.1 cubic feet with the 60/40-split rear seat folded. Pretty good compared to the 14.4 cubic feet in the Elantra sedan or the 19.2/45.8 cubic feet in the Hyundai Kona.

The Hyundai Elantra GT only comes standard with automatic emergency braking, but other active safety features are available through packages.

On the base GT trim, the Style Package ($2,900) includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. On N Line models with the automatic transmission, the Tech Package ($3,850) becomes available. It includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor.

Every Elantra GT has an 8-inch touchscreen display, a six-speaker audio system, satellite radio, and HD Radio. Bluetooth, auxiliary and USB input, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are also included.

The aforementioned Tech Package ($3,850) on automatic-equipped N Line models adds navigation, connected services, a seven-speaker Infinity audio system, and wireless charging.

Hyundai equips the GT with projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, power and heated side mirrors, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the seats are covered in cloth and a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, air conditioning, and a cargo area cover are included.

A sunroof is bundled with the aforementioned safety features, leather upholstery, heated front seats, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, and more in the Style Package ($2,900).

The N Line comes with the turbocharged engine, larger brakes, and a multi-link independent suspension. It adds various exterior enhancements, including N design front and rear fascias, gloss black trim, LED headlights and taillights, and 18-inch N design alloy wheels set within summer performance tires.

Leather seating surfaces, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, and push-button start are also included.

Outside of the safety and tech features already mentioned, the Tech Package ($3,850) includes the sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a power driver seat with lumbar support.
